The AST Government and Public Affairs Department advocates to ensure higher quality patient care through the enhancement of the profession of surgical technology before state and federal regulatory and legislative bodies and the public.

The Government and Public Affairs Department, through our advocacy program, interfaces with our AST State Assembly system to coordinate and drive our grassroots system at the state level with the goal of fostering participation in the legislative process. Through this web site, we provide our membership with information, advocacy tools, and access to legislative alerts and updates as well as tools for communicating with elected officials.

AST has recently updated the Legislative area of our web site, to provide surgical technologists and the public with more information on AST’s legislative agenda, issues surrounding competency in the operating room, and current legislation being monitored and supported by the Association of Surgical Technologists.
