Scholarships
There are several opportunities for AST members to seek assistance
when pursuing their surgical technology education in CAAHEP-accredited
surgical technology programs or for current surgical technologists
who are pursuing advanced education related to the profession or
who are participating in medical missionary work.
Please read the application instructions carefully, and return
the application to the appropriate address with all the requested
materials. Each year, qualified candidates – students, as
well as practitioners – are disqualified from consideration,
because they have not submitted all the requested materials or
have not answered all the questions on the application.

Scholarships for Students
Foundation for Surgical Technology
The Foundation offers financial assistance to students in accredited surgical technology programs. The leadership of the Foundation determines the amount of the awards and selects the scholarship recipients.
The names of the 2007 recipients will be announced at the AST 39th Annual National Conference in Orlando, Florida, May 20-24, 2008. The names will be printed in the Journal and posted on the AST website by June 15, 2008.

Thomson Delmar Learning
Thomson Delmar Learning offers students in CAAHEP-accredited
surgical technology programs the opportunity to apply for financial
assistance. Thomson Delmar administers the program and selects
the scholarship recipient.
The name of the recipient will be announced
at the AST 39th Annual National Conference in Orlando, Florida,,
May 20-24, 2008. The name will be published in the Journal and
posted on the AST website by June 15, 2008..

AST National Honor Society Student Scholarship
AST offers this scholarship to reward members of the AST National
Honor Society (NHS) who are continuing their education by attending
a CAAHEP-accredited surgical assisting program.
Eligibility requirements
- The applicant must be a member of the AST National Honor Society.
- The applicant must be in the process of completing a CAAHEP-accredited surgical assisting program or must begin classes
within one year of receipt of scholarship, must maintain a 3.0
GPA (based on a 4.0 scale), and must remain in good standing within
the institution..
- The applicant must document current AST membership.
Application Process
- The applicant must submit a complete application, including
the application form and required attachment by April 1, 2008.
- The application and all information submitted must be typed.
Handwritten applications will not be accepted.
- Send the application to AST, 6 West Dry Creek Circle, Littleton,
CO 80120. Applications sent by fax
or email will not accepted.
- Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted and will
not be returned.
Recipients will receive $1,000 after completing one semester
of classes, following receipt of a satisfactory progress report
from the program director and copy of official transcripts.
Due to a change in the application process, the 2007 scholarship has been awarded already. Applications for the 2008 scholarship are due April 1, 2008. The name of the 2008 recipient will be announced at the AST 39th Annual National Conference in Orlando, Florida, May 20-24, 2008. The name also will be published in the Journal and posted on the AST website by June 15, 2008.

Scholarships for Educators and Practitioners 
Foundation for Surgical Technology Advanced Education/Medical Mission Scholarship
The Foundation also offers financial assistance to current AST
members who are pursuing advanced education
related to the practice or who are seeking to perform medical
mission work.
There is no deadline for applications. Applications are accepted
throughout the year and are reviewed individually by the national
AST Foundation Committee.

Foundation for Surgical Technology New Educator Scholarship
The Foundation for Surgical Technology is introducing a new recognition to honor new surgical technology instructors who have accepted the challenge to educate our future practitioners. The name of the 2007 New Educator of the Year will be announced at the 2008 Instructors Forum in Memphis. The deadline for applications is December 1, 2007.
