Educator of the Year Awards

In 2003, AST introduced the Educator of the Year Awards to recognize the many outstanding educators who devote their lives to the field. Educators are nominated by their peers and selected by the Foundation for Surgical Technology. The winner in each category is recognized at the AST Instructors Forum, in the Journal, in Instructors Newsletter and on the AST website.

Names of the 2007 award winners will be announced at the 2008 Instructors Forum in Memphis. The 2007 Educator of the Year will be awarded a cash prize of $500. The 2007 Clinical Educator of the Year will be awarded $250.

Educator of the Year

Award criteria:

Candidate must be nominated by a peer (educator, school administrator, etc). Student nominations will not be accepted.
Candidate must be a full-time employee of an accredited school.
Candidate must be a member of the AST Galaxy.
Nominations must include a maximum 500-word essay explaining why the educator is the best in the field.
Candidate must be an AST member.
The candidate must demonstrate involvement in the state assembly.
The essay and nomination form must be postmarked by December 1, 2007.

Clinical Educator of the Year

Award criteria:

New Educator of the Year – New award!
The Foundation for Surgical Technology is introducing a new recognition to honor new surgical technology instructors who have accepted the challenge to educate our future practitioners. The name of the 2007 New Educator of the Year will be announced at the 2008 Instructors Forum in Memphis.
